Where to eat charcoal-grilled food in Poblenou, Barcelona
Poblenou has become one of Barcelona's best neighbourhoods for food lovers. Among its quiet streets and former-industrial atmosphere you'll find everything from specialty brunch to product-driven grill cuisine. If the latter is what you're after, here's a short guide to getting it right.
What makes charcoal-grill cooking special
Grilling isn't just "meat over fire". A good grill restaurant takes care of three things:
- The product: aged meats, fresh market fish and seasonal vegetables.
- The heat: a dry, enveloping heat seals the outside while keeping the juices in.
- Just enough smoke: it adds aroma without masking the flavour of the product.
At deVega we work with a Josper oven, a closed charcoal grill that reaches very high temperatures. That gives a perfect crust on a steak or octopus without drying them out inside.
What to order
If it's your first time, a good route is to start with some sharing starters —Iberian acorn-fed ham, homemade croquettes or provoleta— and follow with a grilled dish. The rice dishes and fideuá are also great for larger tables.
Tip: leave room for something sweet. A long, unhurried meal is part of the plan.
